Jesus Martinez is a master potter who lives in Mata Ortiz with his wife Maria del Socorro Amaya de Martinez. Togehter they make some of Mata Ortiz' finest ollas. Socorro forms, sands and polishes all their pots, while Jesus paints and fires them. Jesus was taught by Mauro Quezada his brother in law and Jesus' style reflects that influence. Currently his work is very rare and difficult to acquire. He is featured in Susan Lowell's book 'The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz' pg.113. This olla is a generously sized 'seed pot' of a new 'gun metal grey clay' and painted in Jesus' unique designs with a special mix of red and white paints.
