| Mata Ortiz Pottery is a stunning and brilliant ceramic art form hand coiled and shaped (without the use of a potter's wheel) from locally dug clay. The olla is then hand painted with paints made from local natural minerals mixed to the artists own standard of colors. The hand formed and painted olla (pot) is then fired on open ground using fuel such as local cow dung or bark from a cottonwood tree. Incredibly high quality pottery is the result of born again ancient methods that remain in the hands and hearts of the ever creative Mata Ortiz Ceramic Artists. You can learn more about the history of this incredible art in the books sold in our Books and Videos Gallery. |
